Espanyol rebel Raul Tamudo could be set for a move to the English Premier League, with Roberto Martinez ready to offer the forward a contract with Wigan Athletic.

Tamudo has been a stalwart with the Barcelona-based club since 1996, but a mixture of poor form in front of goal and a much-publicised fall-out with coach Mauricio Pochettino has left Tamudo out of favour and seeking a move elsewhere.

The representative of the player, Tomas Duran, is reportedly negotiating with the Latics over a move, according to English tabloid The Daily Mirror.

Recent speculation emanating from Spain suggests that Tamudo and Espanyol are close to reaching an agreement to terminate the remainder of the 32-year old’s contract, freeing him up to discuss terms over a move to England.

Wigan are seeking a replacement for striker Marlon King, who this week was sentenced to 18 months in jail after being convicted of assault, leading the club to cancel his contract.

They appear to have earmarked Tamudo as an ideal back-up striker to Martinez’s preferred front pairing of Hugo Rodallega and Jason Scotland.
